Don Chan is the Managing Director Asia of IAA-Advisory Associates which provides specialized advisory services in leasing and asset finance in the areas of strategy and planning, corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, vendor and captive finance, turnaround and restructures, international expansion and funding strategies. His clients include CITIC Capital, John Deere Financial Leasing, Shenzhen Energy, Gold Wind Technologies, STX Shipping (Korea), Ecapital Financial Leasing, National Australia Bank and Carnival International (HK listed Co.). Don’s most recent position before joining IAA-Advisory was the CEO of BNPP Paribas Leasing Solutions China which he led from the start-up of the company in 2007.
Don is a very experienced General Manager and a seasoned finance and treasury executive with more than 30 years’ experience in private equity, global leasing, supply chains, and structured finance in the US, Pan Asia and China. As the CFO of AT&T Capital, Asia Pacific and later the President of AT&T Capital, North Asia, Don took a leading role in the execution of AT&T Capital’s Asia Pacific strategies and expansion into Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and New Zealand, successfully implementing tough strategies to navigate through the Asia Economic Crisis of 1997/98.
Don led the start-up of CIT China in 1997 and witnessed the growth of the Chinese leasing industry to a US$400bn market by 2017 with over 6,000 lessors. He was also responsible for establishing and managing Dell Financial Services to support and enhance Dell’s Asia Pacific sales.
Prior to his assignment to Asia, Don co-headed the Treasury Department of AT&T Capital. He also worked in RJR Nabisco Brands, Inc., Colgate Palmolive Co. and one of the big eight accounting firms in the US. As the former treasurer at AT&T Capital, Don has a particular interest in developing competitive funding structures in China which is one of the most critical factors for the success of Chinese lessors.
Don has in-depth understanding of Chinese regulatory approval processes; lease and factoring documentation, accounting and taxation; the credit environment and lending culture; He was the pioneer in medical financing in China by arranging the very first medical lease in China in 1997 and successfully introduced lease receivable collateral bank loans in 1999- vital for Chinese leasing companies in raising funding. Don is very effective in balancing local practice and the Western way of doing business.
Don is a Certified Public Accountant in U.S. and Hong Kong. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Baruch College and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from New York University.
