Thomas Deng is the Regional CIO Greater China and Chief China Strategist of UBS Wealth Management. He is a member of the CIO Asia Investment Committee as well as the CIO Emerging Markets Investment Committee. In his capacity, Thomas helps formulate and communicate UBS House View and China macro, market, regulation and theme related investment views internally as well as with external clients. Thomas joined UBS in October 2015. Prior to that, Thomas was CEO and Senior Strategist at a boutique Chinas asset management firm. He was also Deputy CEO and Head of Investments at Invesco Great Wall Fund Management Company, with asset under management over USD10bn.
Before embarking on asset management, Thomas was a Managing Director and Chief China Strategist at the Global Investment Research Division at Goldman Sachs during 2004-2010, and he was recognized as a leader in China strategy research by both Asiamoney and Institutional Investor for many years. Thomas also served as Managing Director and Head of China Equity Capital Markets at Goldman Sachs during 2010-2011, during which he managed several landmark transactions. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Thomas covered China related financials, conglomerates and technology as a sector analyst at Credit Suisse and BNP Paribas. Thomas started his career as a FX dealer at CA Indosuez in 1995.
Thomas holds double Master Degrees in Economics and Statistics from University of Utah, and received a B.A. in International Finance from Wuhan University. He also completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School.
Thomas became a CFA charter holder in 2000, and currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors at the Harvard Business School Association of Hong Kong.
