DJ is the Vice President for Medial Affairs at United Family Healthcare.
His previous work was as an attending physician in Emergency Medicine in the UK’s National Health Service, where he helped to lead a two-site, 120,000 patient a year emergency service.
He was also Group Medical Director for Aspen Healthcare UK, a group of nine private hospitals and clinics with 46,000 inpatient stays and 300,000 outpatient contacts.
As well as his clinical leadership work he has many years experience as an external adviser to UK government and private sector clients, including the Department of Health, PwC and KPMG.
For several years he also worked closely with the Care Quality Commission — the national body overseeing health quality standards in the UK independent and public health sectors — both as a clinical adviser in Emergency Medicine and as part of the national governance team for Aspen Healthcare.
During his career, he has also spent several years outside medicine as a management consultant, delivering improvement and knowledge transfer programmes for multinational companies in the utilities, manufacturing and energy sectors.
This range of non-clinical work, in addition to his two decades of clinical training, has provided him with a unique perspective on healthcare leadership and the needs of service development.
His primary interest is the link between performance and organisational culture, particularly as it affects patient safety.
